Big scheduling changes are headed to Disney, as the House of Mouse is shaking up its release calendar for 2024 and beyond. A new Star Wars movie and Moana live-action adaptation have been added to the slate, while the next three Avatar films are being delayed by a year.
According to the revised schedule, the Moana project and Star Wars feature will debut on 27 June 2025 and 18 December 2026 respectively. Deadpool 3 is now hitting theatres on 3 May 2024 ahead of its original 8 November date, with Avatar 3, Avatar 4, and Avatar 5 shifted to 19 December 2025, 21 December 2029, and 19 December 2031.
The Marvel lineup, in particular, saw a major reshuffling. Captain America: Brave New World has been moved to 26 July 2024 from 3 May, resulting in delays to the rest of the titles. Thunderbolts is now pushed back to 20 December 2024, followed by the Blade reboot on 14 February 2025, Fantastic Four on 2 May 2025, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on 1 May 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars, originally planned for 1 May 2026, is jumping to 7 May 2027.
Elsewhere, a new Fede Alvarez-directed Alien movie is set to open on 16 August 2024, with Ridley Scott serving as producer. When 2026 rolls around, a separate Star Wars film will hit the silver screen on 22 May, alongside another upcoming entry in the franchise, currently dated for 17 December 2027. No details have been announced for any of the Star Wars installments, with Disney keeping mum for now.

The total overhaul of Disney’s release plan is brought on by the ongoing writers strike, as well as industry-standard production delays. At the very least, the revised release date for Deadpool 3 should be good news for fans.
