Marvel Studios has announced its latest live-action series, the spy-thriller Zodiac, which is set for release in 2028.

Unveiled during Marvel TV’s panel at New York Comic Con, the new series will begin production in 2027, with Marvel Studios head of streaming, television and animation Brad Winderbaum taking to the stage to share more about the elusive new project.
“[We were] really trying to keep this project a secret, but y’all found out about it last week. So now I got to talk about it,” he shared. “It’s a spy thriller. We start shooting in London this spring. Comes out in 2028 on Disney+. I’m sure there’s going to be lots of spoilers because we’re going to start casting it in the next couple of weeks, and it is amazing. If you’re a fan of the comics, there is a lot hidden in that logo. All you’re getting is that it’s supposed to be a secret.”

As Winderbaum mentioned, the show also received a first look at its logo, and fans have already begun deconstructing the symbols shown within for clues to what the series might entail. While the “A” in Zodiac offers a clear connection to S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), the secret counter-terrorism and intelligence agency in the Marvel universe, the letter “O”, which is shaped like a wheel comprising 12 pieces with three missing, points to something far more obscure.
In Marvel Comics, Zodiac was the name of a cartel comprised of 12 supervillains, each representing a sign of the zodiac. The cartel has appeared in the comics in various forms since 1969’s Avengers #72, but the presence of the wheel in the show’s logo hints that it will be based on Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D. comics, which saw a time-travelling Leonardo da Vinci forming a secret organisation known as the Great Wheel, who all sat on a round table similar in appearance to the symbol seen in the logo. Members of this organisation included S.H.I.E.L.D. members like Nick Fury and John Garrett, alongside members of the Hand and Hydra, each having a different callsign based on the zodiac.

If the symbol is truly a representation of the Great Wheel, its three missing pieces do offer an extra bit of information, as they might correlate to the seats of three members – Nick Fury’s younger brother Jake (Scorpio), Il Professore (Virgo), and da Vinci himself (Aries). What this means remains a mystery for now, but it might hint that the Great Wheel has not been fully assembled, and that the show might follow its creation and subsequent implications.
With its apparent connection to S.H.I.E.L.D., fans are also hoping that Zodiac will see the return of the characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the 2013 series which ran for seven seasons and featured fan-favourite characters like Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Daisy Johnson/Quake (Chloe Bennet). But for now, all these are pure speculation until Marvel actually reveals more information on the mysterious project down the line.
