Capcom’s flagship survival horror game franchise, Resident Evil, might already have an impressive 30-year run since the original’s debut in 1996, but the studio still has plans to keep its current storyline going, at least for the next 10 years.

During an interview with Yahoo Japan, executive producer Jun Takeuchi outlined Capcom’s plans for the franchise, explaining that its current narrative might reach a definitive conclusion much sooner than fans expect.
“The series’ story wasn’t planned out from the beginning; it expanded with each new game. When we were planning [2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake] and creating a 10-year branding concept, this was the most challenging aspect. If you play through all of them, I think you’ll realise the meaning behind the order of the remakes,” he explained. “With the release of Requiem this year, I feel like the first 10 years have come to a close, so I think the conclusion will come in the next 10 years.”
While ten years might seem like quite a long time, Capcom doesn’t release titles on an annual basis, which leaves the question of how many more Resident Evil games fans can expect before the franchise’s current story wraps up. To this end, Takeuchi teased that there will be “multiple titles” ahead, but did not provide any further specifics.

Takeuchi’s comments are also specific to the franchise’s current narrative, which centres on iconic characters like Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Ada Wong, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine, just to name a few, so it’s entirely likely that after the main narrative concludes, the franchise will still continue with potential reboots that introduce new characters.
For now, fans can look forward to Resident Evil Veronica, the upcoming modern remake of 2000s Code: Veronica that’s set for 2027, alongside a potential story DLC for Resident Evil: Requiem involving franchise antagonist Oswell E. Spencer. Capcom has also teased that more remakes are on the way, meaning there’s still room for modern versions of the franchise’s fifth and sixth entries. As for future releases beyond that, fans will just have to wait and see.
