Mixed Martial Arts Star Gina Carano To Kick Ass In The Mandalorian

While she’s previously graced the silver screen as the two-faced, backstabbing soldier-turned-mercenary, Riley Hicks, in Fast and Furious 6, and the incredibly badass, though narratively underdeveloped, Angel Dust in widely-acclaimed, profanity-spouting superhero flick, Deadpool, Gina Carano (Madness in the Method) is now jumping aboard another behemoth of a franchise, Star Wars.

The mixed martial arts fighter is joining Pedro Pascal (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Game of Thrones) in Disney’s upcoming series, The Mandalorian, which is set to draw viewers to the House of Mouse’s new streaming service, Disney+. We’re not sure what role she’ll play in a lone bounty hunter’s journey across the far reaches of space, but our fingers are crossed that she’ll shirk the clinging shadows of that villainous henchman archetype — as charming as she’s played it, it’ll be nice to see her do more.

With Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Spider-Man: Homecoming) writing, and Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), and Deborah Chow (Flowers in the Attic) set to direct, expectations are going to be set high for the series that’ll carry the spirit of Boba Fett with its bounty hunter protagonist — especially since the fandom-hyped Boba Fett has been laid to rest for good.
