While we’re still eagerly anticipating the release of Disney’s The New Mutants, director Josh Boone is already looking forward for what might come.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via ComicBook.com), Boone expressed his desire to turn The New Mutants into a trilogy, having already “planned out” all the story elements that would make it so. This, he stated, is highly dependent on the film’s success in the box office.
Ultimately, after all this time, I was able to make MY #NewMutants film, and I’m am proud of it. What I’m hoping for now is that it will be successful enough so the studio will allow me to complete a trilogy. I’ve got all planned out.
Josh Bone on the future of The New Mutants.
This is interesting, as the movie was originally a spinoff set in the same universe as 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. However, with Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Boone is positive that the door has been blown wide open for him to expand upon the film. And he will no doubt be hopeful that the long-gestating movie will no longer see any more delays, having seen a staggering amount of them since 2017.
The New Mutants releases in theatres on 28 August.
Marion has a serious RPG addiction. Sometimes it bleeds into real life; he forgets to sleep because he thinks he has a Witcher’s body clock. Forgive him in advance if he suddenly blurts out terms such as “Mind Flayer” and “Magic Missile”, because never once does he stop thinking about his next Dungeons & Dragons game.
