Commercial success does not always equate to recognition by fellow peers in the industry. It’s a tale as old as time. And, a narrative that continues to persist with the Oscars.
This time around, the most successful anime movie of all time, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (劇場版「鬼滅の刃」 無限列車編) joins the list of titles that fails to make it to the nomination list.
Sadly, even Studio Ghibli’s Earwig and the Witch didn’t make the nomination as well.
Instead, the above titles were nominated for Animated Feature Film for the 2021 Oscars:
- Onward
- Over The Moon
- A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
- Soul
- Wolfwalkers
The biggest coup in this year’s nomination would be Netflix and Apple TV+ for their nominations for Over The Moon and Wolfwalkers respectively.
It’s not a bad list of nominees but, personally, Demon Slayer should be up there as well.
Gerald currently straddles between his love of video games and board gaming. There’s nothing that interests him more than trying out the newest and fanciest gadget in town as well. He dreams of publishing a board game sometime in the future!
