Oscars 2024 Recap: ‘Oppenheimer’ Wins Big With 7 Awards & Full Winners List

The 2024 Oscars celebrated a night of cinematic excellence, with Oppenheimer securing its place as the evening’s standout winner with seven awards. The film, a gripping portrayal of the atomic bomb’s creator, scooped up the prestigious Best Picture award. Director Christopher Nolan was honoured with the Best Director Oscar, cementing the film’s critical acclaim.

In a remarkable achievement, Oppenheimer also clinched top acting honours. Cillian Murphy was awarded Best Actor, and Robert Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor, fulfilling widespread expectations. Emma Stone garnered the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Poor Things, while Da’Vine Joy Randolph took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in The Holdovers.

The evening was also notable for its recognition of screenplay excellence, with Anatomy Of A Fall and American Fiction winning Best Original and Best Adapted Screenplay respectively. Poor Things impressed in the technical categories, winning Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hair.

Music categories saw Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell capturing the Best Original Song for What Was I Made For? from Barbie, while Oppenheimer secured the Best Original Score.

However, this year’s Oscars did not go without its share of controversy, particularly with notable omissions in the nominations. Barbie director Greta Gerwig, lead star Margot Robbie, and Killers Of The Flower Moon actor Leonardo DiCaprio were among those surprisingly overlooked, sparking discussions on snubs within the industry.
