Atermis And The Hunter From The Monster Hunter Movie Revealed!

There has been plenty of buzz surrounding Screen Gem’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Capcom’s beloved Monster Hunter franchise, and while fans continue to contend their positions of the different aspects of the movie, the inevitable conclusion is that it will still be coming.

While director Paul W.S Anderson has assured that the monsters remain the main draw despite a cast anchored by Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, and Ron Pearlman, there are still plenty to be worried about what could be another video game movie set up to fail.

Thanks to IGN, we now have our first look at how Jovovich and Jaa will be portrayed in the film.

Milla Jovovich stars as heroine Natalie Artemis, an original character, with Tony Jaa as the Hunter. Fans can easily spot the Hunter’s Giant Jawblade, as well as a Great Hunter’s Bow, with his look reminiscent of the Field Team Leader from Monster Hunter: World.

Meanwhile, Artemis comes armed with a pair of unidentified Dual Blades on her back, a carving knife, and a ranged Slinger on her arm.

Anderson further elaborated on how “the beauty of the costumes and the landscapes from the Monster Hunter game really kind of came out in that image,” with Artemis being the “game player, in a way, she is the audience’s avatar, their way into the world.”

And with the game featuring several biomes, the movie will replicate that as much as possible, with the film “going into a much more rocky landscapes…set underground as well, in terrifying caves.” Anderson continued, “There’s a more lush part of the movie, which kind of reflects the kind of lush, more jungle-y look of the Monster Hunter world. And then the climax of the movie takes place around a piece of the Ancient Civilization that’s, it’s kind of referenced many times in the Monster Hunter games.”

“Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.”
