‘Street Fighter 6’ Hits 4 Million Sales Milestone

It’s a knockout for Street Fighter 6! Developer Capcom has announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the game has sold over 4 million units worldwide.

This is not the first milestone the game has hit since its launch on 2 June 2023. After selling one million units over its launch weekend, the game proceeded to hit two other major milestones of two and three million sales in July 2023 and January 2024 respectively.

According to Capcom, Street Fighter 6 is “generally progressing in line with (Capcom’s) expectations”, referencing their overall aim for the title to outsell its predecessor Street Fighter 5, with a target of over 10 million copies sold over the game’s lifetime.

With these new sales figures, Street Fighter 6 earns its rightful place among other popular fighting game franchises. In comparison, Mortal Kombat 1 has sold four million copies a year after its launch in September 2023, while Tekken 8 sold two million within a month from its January 2024 release.

Despite its success, it seems Street Fighter 6’s journey is still far from over, with Capcom assuring players that they “intend to release more content and hold more events”. The game kicked off Year 2 of its DLC lineup earlier this summer, welcoming notorious villain M. Bison into the ring. Courtesy of a Fatal Fury crossover, the fighter will be joined by Terry Bogard later in Fall, followed by Mai in Winter 2025. Street Fighter 3‘s Elena is due for a comeback in Spring 2025, filling the gap between the two releases.
