On an island resort far, far away, a massive new sand sculpture festival will take place. That’s right, Star Wars is coming to the Sentosa Sandsation in Singapore in anticipation of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, which premieres this holiday season.
The Sentosa Sandsation: Star Wars Edition will take place from August 31 – September 15, 2019, so that’s two weeks of Force-fueled awesomeness under the sun. Perfect timing, too, for those whose kids are studying in Singapore — it’ll take place during the term break, so you can’t miss out!
Also, while Marvel wowed us last year with its amazing superhero-themed sculpts, this particular edition of Sentosa Sandsation will be Southeast Asia’s largest sand sculpture festival, boasting about 3,000 square metres, which makes sense as we imagine tons of Star Wars fans will be making their way there throughout the two weeks.
The 20 sculpts will feature the life-sized likenesses of Star Wars icons such as Han Solo, Chewbacca, Yoda, Boba Fett and Darth Vader, all thanks to the handiwork of Singapore’s sculpting maestro JOOheng Tan.
Aside from photo-taking opportunities with the sculpts, you can also enjoy a couple more fun activities, such as:
- Sand sculpting workshops and “live” demonstrations – Free sand sculpting workshops will be conducted on the event grounds for you and your family. These will take place at 11am, 2pm and 5pm daily, on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Sentosa International Sand Sculpting Competition – There’ll be a handful of the world’s best sand sculptors who’ll be slogging it out with some amazing hand-crafted sand art pieces, which will take place from August 31 – September 2.
- Free movie screenings – Relive the saga of the latest Star Wars trilogy with the screenings of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi on the grounds itself on August 31 and September 1 respectively.
Of course, what’s a proper Star Wars event without exclusive themed merch? There’ll be exclusive bespoke goodies for you to purchase, such as glow-in-the-dark T-shirts, tote bags, and the like to show off your love for all things Star Wars.
