Netflix’s Scooby-Doo series has tapped Ghostbusters: Afterlife actress Mckenna Grace as the live-action version of Daphne Blake, with the show positioned as a modern reimagining of the iconic 1969 cartoon.

As reported by Variety, Grace will portray a young version of Daphne and will follow the origins of the Mystery Inc. crew as they solve their first case. First announced in March 2025, the show will run for eight episodes and will be helmed by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also double up as its writers.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” reads the series’ logline. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
This isn’t the first time Grace has been a part of the Scooby-Doo franchise, as the actress had previously voiced a younger version of Daphne in the 2020 animated film Scoob!. Outside of that, the star is best known for her appearances as Phoebe Spengler in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its 2024 sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, alongside portraying younger versions of lead characters in films like 2019’s Captain Marvel, 2017’s I, Tonya, and the 2018 series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Apart from numerous animated TV shows, movies and spin-offs, the upcoming Netflix series isn’t the first time Scooby-Doo has been brought to life, as it follows the 2002 live-action movie of the same name starring Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardellini, which spawned a sequel in 2004, Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed. Additionally, there was also a lesser-known movie in 2009 named Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, which also received a sequel in the form of 2010’s Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster.
