As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the 45-year-old has closed the deal to voice Amy in the studio’s next chapter of its live-action adaptation of Sega’s classic platforming video game, with the appearance of the iconic pink hedgehog teased in the end credits sequence of 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Jeff Fowler will also return as director following his work on the previous two movies, alongside returning producers Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher of Original Films and Toru Nakahara. Paramount has also locked in a 19 March 2027 release for the film, meaning fans only have a little more than a year to go before they can witness Bell’s Amy come to life on screen.

Bell’s casting also follows the film franchise trend of adding big Hollywood names to its line-up with every entry, such as Idris Elba’s Knuckles in 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Keanu Reeves’ Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The Blue Blur himself is voiced by Ben Schwartz, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey reprising her voice roles in the video game franchise as Miles “Tails” Prower. The franchises live-action actors include James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Sonic’s adopted parents, alongside Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, all of which are expected to return in the next entry.

While plot details on the upcoming film remain under wraps, Amy is a well-known face in the gaming franchise, with the giant hammer weilding pink hedgehog being one of Sonic’s closest allies and love interest. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will also see the appearance of Metal Sonic, a recurring villain in the games, and is also expected to involve elements of time travel and alternate timelines.

Bell is best known for portraying Anna in Disney’s Frozen franchise, with the actress also appearing in other video games like the early Assassin’s Creed games as Lucy Stillman. On the live-action front, she has appeared in numerous TV series such as The Good Place, Gossip Girl and Veronica Mars, alongside movies like Couples Retreat and Bad Moms.
