Jenna Ortega Is Back In Black As ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Begins Filming, Full Cast Announced

The Addams family is gearing up for their return to Nevermore Academy, as Season 2 of Wednesday is officially in production. Filming for the sequel to Netflix’s breakout hit has begun in Ireland, with a spooky cast reveal confirming both new and old faces.

“Hello, Thing. More torture awaits,” says Jenna Ortega in the video, as the family’s disembodied hand delivers scripts to various members of the series. The headliner will, of course, reprise her role as the titular Wednesday Addams, joining returning cast members Joy Sunday (as Bianca Barclay), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galphin), Mossa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), and Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus).

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo have all been upped to series regulars for the forthcoming season. Zeta-Jones plays Morticia, while Guzmán and Orodonez portray Gomez and Pugsley, respectively. Lewis-Nyawo is Ritchie Santiago.

Notably missing from the announcement is Percy Hynes White, who starred as Xavier Thorpe in Season 1. A reason was not given for his absence, but the actor has ostensibly been dropped amid sexual assault allegations made against him on social media.

Rounding out the list of new series regulars are Steve Buscemi (The Big Lebowski, Boardwalk Empire), Billie Piper (Scoop, I Hate Suzie), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill, Lord of Misrule), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things, The Handmaid’s Tale), and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime, Park Avenue).

Guest stars, meanwhile, include Christopher Lloyd (Addams Family, Back to the Future), Joanna Lumley (Fool Me Once, Absolutely Fabulous), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld, Crash), Frances O’Connor (The Missing, The Twelve), Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method, Somebody I Used to Know), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries, Scream) and Joonas Suotamo.

“We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces,” showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement.

Tim Burton will direct and executive produce the comedy fantasy show with Ortega also stepping into the role of executive producer starting this second season. The pair is teaming up on Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 1988 film, which hits theatres 6 September.

Wednesday was renewed for Season 2 last year. Story details are scarce, but it will move away from romance-driven subplots and delve more into its horror aspect. The debut season ranks as one of the most-watched shows on the streamer, and was nominated for 12 Emmys. A spin-off focusing on Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen in the series, is currently in the works.
