Ever since Henry Cavill hung up the suit and David Corenswet (The Politician) was announced as the next Superman, everyone’s been anticipating the big reveal. Director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) shared a first look at Corenswet as Superman on social media, teasing plenty of action to come.
Superman will be the first in Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, with 10 projects currently in the works, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. “DC has been disconnected in film and television for a long time, and it’s one of our jobs, mine and Peter’s, to come in and make sure the DCU is connected in film, television, gaming, and animation,” said Gunn in a 2023 video.
David Corenswet has big shoes to fill as Superman, and he’s doing it one boot at a time in a sleek new suit as an ominous blast of cosmic energy streaks across Metropolis. Even superheroes have to look their best while saving the city, after all. The still was accompanied with the film’s official release date as a caption, with Gunn telling fans to ‘get ready’.
Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) will play Lois Lane, Superman’s love interest, and Nicholas Hoult (Renfield) was also cast as infamous antagonist Lex Luthor. Superman is set to soar into cinemas on 11 July 2025.
