‘Hades II’ Drops Surprise Early Access With More Content Than Original Game

As the sequel to one of the best and most beloved roguelike action RPGs around, Hades 2 certainly has large shoes to fill. But it seems to be off to a very good start, having entered early access with more content than the entirety of its predecessor.

Hades II Early Access

“Hades II in early access already has more environments, foes, and fully-voiced characters than the full version of the original Hades game,” reads the game’s Steam page. “But it isn’t complete, and key areas, characters, foes, narrative events, and systems are still to come.”

The early access period is expected to last from now till “at least through the end of 2024”, according to developer Supergiant Games. A release date for the full game has not been set, but an early 2025 window looks likely.

This comes a few weeks after the launch of an extremely limited technical test, which showcased a shiny first look at new Greek gods and goddesses, Chthonic characters, various weapons, and other fresh content. While described to be “far enough along that as many players as possible could have a good experience right away, yet not far enough along that it’s too late in development for us to act on the feedback we receive,” Hades II is already shaping up to be impressively polished.

The sequel’s first major update will release in the next few months, with plans to add a new part of the Underworld, a new weapon, and the ability to customise its central hub, The Crossroads. Currently available in early access on Steam and Epic Games Store, it follows Melinoë, Zagreus’ sister, as she takes on the Titan of Time, Chronos, and his forces.
