‘Batman: Brave and the Bold’ Taps The Flash’s Andy Muschietti As Director

Fresh off his stint in The Flash, Andy Muschietti is slipping back into the director’s role for a new Batman film. According to Variety, the filmmaker will be helming Batman: The Brave and the Bold, one of the new titles in DC Studio’s upcoming slate as revealed by co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran earlier this year.

The project is based on the Grant Morrison’s comic series, which imagines a Bat family with Bruce Wayne’s biological son Damian serving as Robin. It doesn’t currently have a screenwriter attached, and will mark the first time Robin appears in a live-action feature since 1997’s Batman and Robin. In it, Chris O’Donnell played the sidekick opposite George Clooney. While other details remain under wraps, it’s confirmed Batman: Brave and the Bold will exist separately from The Batman universe starring Robert Pattinson.

“We saw The Flash; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan,” Gunn and Safran said of their decision to pick Muschietti as director. “It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”

The first chapter of Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe will kick off with Gods and Monsters on 11 July 2025. Other notable titles include Superman: Legacy, which features a younger take on Clark Kent, a Wonder Woman prequel show, and a Green Lantern mystery series. Lesser known DC heroes, such as Booster Gold and Swamp Thing, will take to the spotlight as well.
