DC Studios’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Taps Ana Nogueira As Writer

DC Studios is gearing up for its new addition to the DC Universe, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with writer Ana Nogueira now confirmed for the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nogueira will pen the script for this anticipated film. Initially, she was slated to write a Supergirl spin-off linked to The Flash, but plans shifted after DC’s restructuring.

Nogueira’s diverse career includes both writing and acting. She is known for her 2016 play Empathitrax, the 2018 short film We Win, which she wrote and starred in, and her play Which Way to the Stage. Her acting credits span popular TV shows like Hightown, The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, and The Michael J. Fox Show.

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, envisions a unique portrayal of Kara Zor-El, distinct from the upcoming Superman: Legacy. “Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton,” Gunn explained in a video previously released on Twitter. “She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a key part of DC Studios’ new lineup, set to redefine the DC narrative starting with Superman: Legacy in 2025. Gunn reveals that he draws inspiration from Tom King’s comics, crafting a “much more hardcore” version of Supergirl. He recently expressed his excitement about Nogueira’s script on Instagram, praising its quality and the fresh perspective it brings to the character.

As of now, details about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remain under wraps.
