The famed Spirit of Vengeance, Ghost Rider, will star in his very own solo TV series on Hulu.
Interestingly, this will the same Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider currently portrayed by Gabriel Luna on the MCU spinoff TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
However, while Luna will reprise his role as the Spirit of Vengeance incarnate, his character will be set in a different continuity from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Therefore, this Hulu version of him will not be connected to the characters from the original show.
Here’s the synopsis of the new Ghost Rider TV series:
“Marvel’s Ghost Rider centres on Robbie Reyes, the quintessential antihero, who lives on the Texas/Mexico border, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. When he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles controlling the power he wields.”
Helming the show as showrunner and executive producer will be Ingrid Escajeda, with Paul Zbyszewski and Jeph Loeb joining her as executive producers as well.
“I couldn’t be more excited and honored to be handed the reins to a Marvel character as beloved as Ghost Rider,” remarked Escajeda. “This story hits every note for me — my love for grounded yet conflicted characters and my desire to scare the $&!# out of people! It’s important to me to find a take that thrills existing fans as well as wider audiences and I believe we’ve done just that.”
“Marvel’s known for all the heart, humor, and action they put into every series, but this time around we’re adding some scares to that mix,” added Zbyszewski.
Alongside Ghost Rider, there will be another Marvel TV series ordered by Hulu called Helstrom.
Helstrom (spelt Hellstrom in the comics) features the sibling duo of Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a “mysterious serial killer”. Together, they will combine “their attitude and skills” as they “track down the terrorizing worst of humanity”. Zbyszewski will also executive produce for this show.
Ghost Rider and Helstrom will join an already extensive lineup of Marvel TV series on Hulu, with the likes of Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey and Tigra & Dazzler already in the pipeline. No release dates for both shows have been announced as of yet.
This year is a big one for Marvel on the small screen, with the likes of WandaVision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, and Loki to name a few heralding the emergence of Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+.
