How often is it that one gets to step into the shoes of a villain and play as the big, bad guy in a game? In most instances, the protagonist is always the shining star, fighting against the evils of the world and the equivalent thereof. While increasingly more titles are featuring morally-grey, complex characters of an ambiguous nature, hardly any allows the player to completely assume control of a crazed, cruel antagonist, for instance.
That’s where DC’s newest adventure differs. For the first time ever in the history of LEGO games, DC Super-Villains sees gamers taking on the role of the ultimate reprobate, in the form of notorious villains like The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Lex Luthor. Guess it’s goodbye to Superman and Batman, for the baddies are taking the spotlight this time round.
With the game’s villain-focused approach, lots of mayhem, havoc fun, and chaos can be expected, alongside the following game features:
- It’s Good to Be Bad – Embrace your inner super-villain, and stand up against other evil forces. Solve puzzles and overcome obstacles through menacing, underhanded tactics, and rise to become the best of the baddest.
- Custom Built Super-Villains – Choose the meanest mug available, or take up an evil yet suave demeanour. The look, style, abilities, and backstory of the player’s villain can be modified, with new powers and customiser elements to be unlocked along the way.
- Outrageously Funny DC Comics Story – Why take yourself so seriously? Just like how poison can be used to fight poison, an arsenal of dirty trickery, such as Graffiti Spraying city walls, or using Fear Toxins on nearby characters, is available to ward off evil through an original, humourous story written in collaboration with DC Comics.
- New Locations to Explore – Set in Gotham City and Metropolis, the game encourages exploration by featuring other known locations as well, including Smallville, Hall of Doom, Hall of Justice, and Justice League Watchtower.
- Team Up through Co-op Gameplay – Birds of a feather flock together. Join forces with your family and friends in a two-player local co-op experience, and defeat bosses in great style.
- Crime Hub Events – Take down the bad guys in heroic missions, or pull off a heist with others; the choice lies within your decision to side with a villain-led crime hub, or a hero-based one.
Slated for release on October 19, 2018 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch, a brief overview of the game reads:
Set in an expansive, open world experience within the DC Universe, the Justice League has disappeared, leaving Earth’s protection to their counterparts from a parallel universe, who have proclaiemd themsevles as the ‘Justice Syndicate’. Sometimes, it takes more a superhero to get the job done, and it’s up to the player and a crazed group of misfits to uncover the intentions of Earth’s new, strange, wannabe superheroes.
