The Minions are hitting the big screen yet again, as Illumination has released the final trailer for its upcoming prequel, Minions & Monsters, which sees the adorable yellow rascals wreak havoc on 1920s Hollywood by summoning cutesy beings that look straight out of a Lovecraftian tale.
Directed by Pierre Coffin, who returns from his work on the Despicable Me franchise and its previous prequel, 2015’s Minions, this new tale will be written by Coffin alongside Brian Lynch (The Secret Life of Pets), and sees the Minions using sorcery to summon monsters to shoot a hit Hollywood movie, only for chaos to ensue. The film will also introduce a new character who looks like a cute green version of Cthulhu, who aids the crew in their quest to summon beings from beyond.
As usual, Coffin will also voice all the Minions, and he will be joined by a vocal cast of Allison Janney (I, Tonya), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Jeff Bridges (Tron), Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me), Zoey Deutch (Zombieland: Double Tap), Bobby Moynihan (Hoppers), Phil LaMarr (Samurai Jack), and South Park co-creator Trey Parker.

Minions & Monsters brings the chaos to theatres on 1 July 2026, with its official synopsis reading, “This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world, and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.”
