Wonder Girl TV Series Green-Lit For The CW

The CW is adding a new superhero to its lineup of DC TV series with Wonder Girl, based on the DC characters created by Joelle Jones.

First reported by Deadline, Wonder Girl will be lead by executive producer and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez and Berlanti Productions.

The series tells the story of Yara Flor, a Latina born of an Amazonian Warrior and a Brazilian River God. After learning that she is, in fact, Wonder Girl, Flor uses her newfound power to help rid the world of evil. This series will also serve as the origin story for Flor, who was recently revealed to be the new Wonder Woman.

The Wonder Girl TV series is notable for starring DC’s first Latina superhero. Flor herself has also yet to appear in a comic book, with her debut appearance slated for January 2021 in Future States: Wonder Woman

Wonder Girl will be joining a number of existing DC shows, including Batwoman, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and the upcoming Superman and Lois series.

Rodriguez has previously worked on USA’s Queen of the South, and has served as writer and producer for Ugly Betty, The Night Shift, and The Glades.

There is no word yet on when Wonder Girl will be released on The CW.
