Uncharted Movie Casts Mark Wahlberg As Sully

Sony’s live-action Uncharted movie might not have had the smoothest journey thus far but it finally seems to be getting back on track, with a new director as well as a new cast member who will be filling quite an important role in the film.

First reported by Variety, actor Mark Wahlberg (Ted, Transformers: The Last Knight) is currently in final talks with Sony to co-star with Tom Holland in the upcoming Uncharted film. Wahlberg will be taking on the role of Victor “Sully” Sullivan, an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker, and businessman, as well as a friend, mentor and father figure to protagonist Nathan Drake.

Ironically enough, Wahlberg was originally in talks to take on the role of Nathan Drake back when David O. Russell was still helming the production of the movie and now he is in final talks to take on the role of Drake’s mentor and ally.

Sully, last seen in Uncharted 4, first met Drake when he was still a young orphan wandering around the streets of Colombia before going on to become his surrogate father In the game, Sully is shown to be very sarcastic and does care about Drake despite having his loyalties tested multiple times throughout the game.

The live-action Uncharted film will be directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee) with a script written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Rafe Judkin. The film is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2020.
