The Ritual’s David Bruckner To Direct Hellraiser Reboot

It seems the puzzle box will be opened once again as it’s been announced that the director behind Netflix’s The Ritual, David Bruckner, will be directing the reboot of the 1980s horror classic Hellraiser.

The reboot will feature a screenplay written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotroski (Super Dark Times), and will be produced by David Goyer, who Bruckner also worked with for this year’s Sundance Film Festival’s hit The Night House.

The original 1987 movie was directed by Clive Baker, who adapted his own novella The Hellbound Heart into a feature-length film. The film tells the story of a sexual deviant Frank who opens a portal to hell after playing around with a puzzle box he bought, releasing gruesome looking creatures known as Cenobites on Earth, led by one nicknamed Pinhead.

There is no news yet on who may be brought on board to star in the reboot as well as plot details but it is all still early days. Spyglass Media, the studio behind the film’s reboot, promises that it will be “loyal, yet evolved”.

Aside from the Hellraiser reboot, Spyglass Media is also developing the next Scream movie alongside Radio Silence, the team behind the 2019 dark comedy Ready or Not.
