Mike Myers, the star of the iconic spy spoof film trilogy Austin Powers, has promised that the franchise will return for a fourth film.
During an appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party stream, the 63-year-old actor and filmmaker was asked by a fan if there would ever be an Austin Powers 4, to which he replied with a simple “Yes,” but did not elaborate further. While some might take his comment as just one made in the heat of the moment to build excitement, the star would later go on to appear in a commercial for telecommunications company Verizon as his iconic villain, Dr Evil, starring alongside familiar faces like Rob Lowe (Number 2), Seth Green (Scott Evil) and Mindy Sterling (Frau Farbissina), meaning a fully-fledged sequel might not be a too far-off idea after all.
Myers’ comment might be brief, but it’s also the strongest sign yet of Austin Powers’ return, something that the star and Jay Roach, the filmmaker who helmed the original 1997 comedy and its two sequels, have hinted at frequently over the past two decades. In 2007, Myers previously told IGN that there was a “fully conceived idea” for a sequel that would centre on Dr Evil’s perspective, but plans never materialised after. More recently, during a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Myers teased that the franchise had “absolutely” more stories to be told.

Originally launched between 1997 and 2002, the Austin Powers movie trilogy consists of International Man of Mystery, The Spy Who Shagged Me, and Goldmember. The films saw Myers taking on multiple roles, including the protagonist, the British Spy Austin Powers and the villain Dr Evil, among other characters like Fat Bastard. The series was iconic for effectively spoofing other spy films like the James Bond and Mission Impossible franchises, with the trio gaining cult classic status over the years.
Now, the question lies in how the actor will bring the iconic characters back, since most of the actors in the original films are getting on in age. Still, the idea of Austin Powers’ return is enticing, so it remains to be seen how a potential fourth movie will shape up.
