‘Star Wars: Visions’ Season 3 Reignites Anime Spark With All-Star Studio Line-Up

Star Wars: Visions is making a triumphant return in 2025. Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed the third season of the celebrated anthology series at the 2024 Disney APAC Content Showcase.

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 will rekindle its anime origins with nine animated shorts from some of Japan’s top-tier anime studios. Studios on board include heavyweights like Studio Trigger (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), WIT Studio (Spy × Family), and Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell). Other contributors include David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), Kamikaze Douga (Batman Ninja), Kinema Citrus (Made in Abyss), Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia), ANIMA (Altered Carbon: Resleeved), and Project Studio Q, a CG animation studio founded by Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno.

“The award-winning anthology of animated short films celebrates the mythology of Star Wars through unique cultural lenses,” Disney and Lucasfilm teased, highlighting how Visions promises an ambitious blend of talent, artistry, and storytelling from some of the anime industry’s distinct creative voices.

Originally debuting in 2021, Star Wars: Visions offered a largely anime-inspired take on the galaxy far, far away. While Season 2 branched out to include perspectives from global creators, Season 3 returns to its roots, delivering a pure anime-driven vision. Unlike the main Star Wars saga, these shorts aren’t considered canon (yet), freeing them to explore bold, stand-alone stories steeped in the mythology and wonder of George Lucas’ beloved universe.
