Script For ‘The Flash’ Sequel By ‘Aquaman’ Scribe Already Written

Despite the unresolved controversies surrounding The Flash, a new report states that the script for the movie’s sequel has already been written.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie’s sequel has been penned by Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The script was reportedly put together just in case The Flash does well when it’s released on 23 June 2023.

The Flash is expected to follow Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, as he uses his powers to race back in time to save his mother from being murdered, creating a variety of consequences for his timeline. Barry will turn to multiple allies for help in restoring the timeline to its original state. These allies include Michael Keaton’s Batman, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and a multiversal version of himself.

The movie’s journey thus far has been a rocky one. The Flash went through multiple rewrites, new directors, release date delays, reshoots and recently, Miller’s legal troubles. Despite all the obstacles, it appears that Warner Brothers and DC are confident in the property’s future.

That said, it should be noted that the sequel will only be greenlit if the first film proves successful. The DCEU movie is being produced on a US$200 million production budget, so it has a high bar to clear.

The Flash will also have to match up to the studio’s Black Adam. Black Adam is set to be the first major DCEU theatrical release since the pandemic as The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman 1984 had simultaneous theatrical and streaming releases. It will be interesting to see if the Dwayne Johnson-led movie can set a new bar for the DCEU and if The Flash can outshine its controversies at the box office.

The Flash speeds to theatres on 23 June 2023.
