‘Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny’ Remaster Revisits Samurai Action In 2025

Six years after Onimusha slashed its way to PC, Capcom is giving its sequel the love it deserves. A remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny has been announced for 2025, with a release slated for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Unveiled during the company’s Spotlight event on 4 February, it brings a fresh coat of paint and likely won’t feature any major new content or updates, taking after the first Onimusha remaster in 2019. Further details about the fan-favourite title will be expected in due time.

“A remastered edition of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, originally released in 2002, is officially under production,” reads the official announcement post on X/Twitter. “Stay tuned for additional updates!”

Widely regarded as the best entry in the series, the PlayStation 2 classic is known for its flashy gameplay and branching storyline, earning strong sales at the time of its release. Set in feudal Japan, the plot centred on the new protagonist Jubei Yagyu, who embarks on a quest for revenge as he battles a demon army led by Nobunaga Oda, a sinister warlord who eliminated the Yagyu clan.

The remaster is the latest spark of renewed interest, with Onimusha: Way of the Sword resurfacing after nearly 20 years. The all-new title, first announced at last year’s The Game Awards to great fanfare, is launching in 2026, and tells the story of a new protagonist wielding the Oni Gauntlet in bloody clashes with the demonic Genma.
