Jason Momoa Wants A Lobo Movie, But Only If It’s R-Rated

Although Jason Momoa (Aquaman) is set to make his debut as the anti-hero Lobo in Warner Bros’ Supergirl on 24 June 2026, the star is already looking towards the future with the character, expressing his interest in making a solo Lobo movie, but on one condition – the film has to be R-rated.

Speaking during an interview with ComicBook.com, the 46-year-old stated that there was already a plan to make more movies featuring the alien bounty hunter, saying that “it would be amazing to do our own solo movie. But the audience really has to love him and want to be there.”

However, the star does have some conditions. In another interview with Collider, he explained that he would only be interested in portraying the character in a solo movie if it was rated R. “It’s all I want, and I promise — I’m just going to put this out there right now — I do not have any interest in making a Lobo PG-13 movie,” he explained. “So, will he be a part of some other movies? If they want me, I’ll be there. But if I make a solo movie, I’m not doing it unless it’s rated R.”

To be fair, his condition does make sense, considering Lobo is perhaps one of DC’s most unhinged antiheroes, a ruthless interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, most known for his rugged looks, biker getup, and signature chained hook weapon, which he often uses while riding his iconic Spacehog speeder bike. To this end, no movie would truly do the character justice unless it included tons of gratuitous violence, something that just can’t be properly shown with a PG rating.

For now, all fans can hope is that DC Studios head James Gunn will agree with Momoa’s point of view and consider an adult-rated solo movie. But first, the studio must still consider whether the character will resonate with fans when he makes his debut in Supergirl, which will see Momoa starring alongside Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El on a mission to save Krypto after the superdog gets poisoned by Matthias Schoenaerts’ Krem of the Yellow Hills. Supergirl will hit theatres on 24 June 2026.
