‘The Social Reckoning’ Trailer Sees Jeremy Strong’s Mark Zuckerberg Caught In Facebook Fallout

The Social Network, the 2010 biographical drama about the rise of Facebook, is finally getting a sequel 16 years later in The Social Reckoning, which sees Jeremy Strong (Succession) taking over the role of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Based on the events that gave rise to the Wall Street Journal’s 2021 exposé, The Facebook Files, the trailer opens with Facebook engineer and whistleblower Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison) enlisting the help of Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) to expose the closely-guarded secrets of the social network, revealing Facebook’s harmful effects on teens and its role in spreading misinformation.

The trailer then unveils the first look at Strong’s Zuckerberg, which, unlike Jesse Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg in the 2010 film essentially as a version of himself, seems to be doing more of an impression of the real-world CEO. The film also stars Bill Burr as Charlie and Wunmi Mosaku as Raya.

The original 2010 film was a massive hit at the box office, grossing US$226 million worldwide and earning eight Academy Award nominations and three Oscars, often considered one of the most influential portrayals of the tech industry in Hollywood history, so it remains to be seen if The Social Reckoning can live up to the expectations set by its predecessors.

Aaron Sorkin returns to the franchise as both writer and director, and will also produce alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser. The Social Reckoning will launch in cinemas on 9 October 2026.
