The final chapter of the love story between Nick and Charlie will soon go into the history books, but not in the way you’d think. Instead of a fourth season, Heartstopper, the much-loved Netflix adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series, is set to conclude with a finale film directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice, Colette).
“Heartstopper will return, bigger than ever,” reads the official announcement post on X/Twitter. “A Heartstopper movie, our final chapter based on Alice Oseman’s upcoming volume six, is coming!!!”
Lead stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke will return as Nick and Charlie, respectively, in addition to serving as executive producers. Oseman is also involved in the project, penning the script alongside Westmoreland. A release date was not shared, but filming kicks off this summer.
“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” said the series creator in a statement. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”
Per the streamer, the upcoming feature will pick up after the events of Season 3, where Nick and Charlie are completely in love. The synopsis reveals one last hurdle in their way — concerns about maintaining a long-term relationship:
“But, with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet.”

The coming-of-age romantic comedy drama was first adapted for the small screen in 2022. All three seasons have received critical and commercial acclaim, particularly for their sensitive and teenage-friendly depiction of LGBTQ+ relationships. The original graphic novel and webcomic series was published in 2016, serving as a prequel to Oseman’s 2015 novella, Nick and Charlie.
