As perhaps one of the biggest surprise reveals of the Nintendo Direct showcase for June 2026, Square Enix’s long-awaited RPG sequel, Kingdom Hearts 4, has finally received its first proper gameplay trailer, reuniting Sora with his Keyblade once more.
During the tail end of the presentation, the much-anticipated title dropped a minute-long trailer showcasing the game in action, opening with a mysterious hooded figure atop a skyscraper in a city besieged by monsters. It doesn’t take long before Sora, the iconic hero of the franchise, shows up, wielding his Keyblade to face off against a gigantic demon.
While brief, the gameplay trailer does show off some of the new moves that Sora will be able to master, including the ability to summon golden chains from his Keyblade to encircle enemies, to which he can then ride them like rails to close the gap or spawn magical projectiles. The trailer also shows off the game’s updated graphics, with the title being built on Unreal Engine 5, alongside the return of familiar faces like Donald, Goofy, and Riku.
“A new instalment in the action role-playing series developed and published by Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 4 gives fans a look at some of the characters that protagonist Sora will meet in the mysterious city of Quadratum,” read the official description for the game. “Sora will once again journey to realms, where new figures cross his path and new powers awaken his next chapter.”

Despite receiving our first look at the title, Nintendo did not announce any release window for Kingdom Hearts 4, so fans might still be in for a long wait ahead. The game, however, is set to launch simultaneously across all platforms, spanning the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
To bide fans’ time before Kingdom Hearts 4 eventually releases, Nintendo also announced that all the previous three games in the franchise will soon be packaged into the Kingdom Hearts Collection, which includes Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re Mind. The collection is set to launch on 8 October 2026.
