Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Scores Third And Final Season

Netflix’s video game series adaptation, Devil May Cry, has been renewed for a third season, which will also mark the final chapter of the demon hunter Dante’s on-screen adventure.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it was always the intention for the series to end with its third chapter, according to showrunner Adi Shankar (Castlevania). “For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time,” said Shankar in a statement.

“This was always Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was ‘Inferno.’ Season 2 was ‘Purgatorio.’ Season 3 will be ‘Paradiso.’ These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.”

Based on Capcom’s hit hack-and-slash video game franchise created by Hideki Kamiya, Devil May Cry made its animated debut on Netflix in 2025, with the show’s second season arriving in May 2026. Both seasons have performed relatively well, each spending time on Netflix’s Global Top 10 charts. Its cast includes Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady, with the show’s animation helmed by Studio Mir.

While based on the video games, the show does take some liberties when it comes to its plot. To be fair, the game franchise’s lore might be far too long and complicated to be effectively condensed into just three seasons, with five mainline titles since 2001 leading up to 2019’s Devil May Cry 5, alongside a standalone reboot title in 2013, DmC: Devil May Cry. Still, certain themes remain the same in the show, such as Dante’s complicated relationship with his brother, Vergil.

“Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms,” reads Netflix’s official synopsis for Devil May Cry. “In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.”
