Netflix has dropped the first look at its live-action Scooby-Doo series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, revealing that the titular pup will be portrayed by a real-life dog for the first time in franchise history.
The teaser, which was posted on Netflix’s official Instagram page, opens with a first-person perspective of a dog sniffing around the woods before it spots Shaggy Rogers (Tanner Hagen). The clip then transitions to our first look at the adorable Great Dane pup himself, cradled by his new best friend.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Mckenna Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” reads the official logline for Scooby-Doo: Origins. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma (Fortson), and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy (Jenkins), they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as writers and showrunners of the series, and will also executive produce alongside André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson under their Midnight Radio banner. Additionally, The Naked Gun’s Paul Walter Hauser has also been cast in an undisclosed role, with the project’s production beginning in Atlanta back in April.

Over the years, Scooby-Doo has become a pop-culture icon, with over a dozen animated series and three theatrical movies, although Scooby-Doo: Origins marks the first time that Scooby himself will appear as a real dog, so hopefully the series will find a way to make him speak in his iconic voice without it looking too goofy.
Scooby-Doo: Origins will launch on Netflix in 2027.
