Marvel Dates Potential Fourth Movie For 2028

2028 will mark a milestone year for Marvel Studios, as it looks to celebrate two decades of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with three previously announced projects. Now, the list will include a fourth movie, slated for 15 December 2028, joining the untitled trio earmarked for February, May, and November of the same year.

The announcement comes as a surprise, considering Disney CEO Bob Iger’s recent public admission that Marvel had “lost a little focus by making too much”, highlighting how “quantity does not necessarily beget quality.”

“We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more,” he said during an investor call in May. “We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.”

As Variety reports, it’s widely expected that some of these 2028 films won’t be able to meet the stipulated release dates. None of them have been revealed, but other projects in development that could end up opening in 2028 include Black Panther 3, a Fantastic Four sequel, a follow-up to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and an X-Men reboot by Michael Leslie. Development on Blade is on hold, so it’s safe to assume that vampire hunter won’t be returning anytime soon.

Leading up to the year, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to be the final film for the studio in 2025, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday in 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars and an untitled feature will round out the 2027 slate.
