Spider-Man is swinging back into cinemas with a brand-new title and a promise of a clean slate. At this year’s CinemaCon, Sony Pictures officially announced Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the title of the next instalment in the Tom Holland-led franchise. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on 31 July 2026, marking a new chapter in Peter Parker’s journey following the emotional finale of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, took the stage at the event, offering a glimpse into the creative direction of the film. “I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world,” Cretton said. “We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before.”
“I really wish I could introduce you to our entire team who are working their bloods off for this. They are incredible, and you will see their amazing work when Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits your theatres.”
Tom Holland, currently filming The Odyssey in Europe with Christopher Nolan, delivered a pre-recorded message to theater owners and press: “I am so sorry I can’t be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie. I know we left you with a massive clip hanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”
Speculation continues around new additions to the cast, including Stranger Things alum Sadie Sink. Rumours have circulated that she may play a version of Jean Grey, though no official confirmation was given at the event.
Sony didn’t stop with just one Spider-Man announcement. The studio also unveiled the release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, confirming a 4 June 2027 theatrical debut. The long-awaited sequel will follow directly on the heels of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with the creative team once again led by directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson. Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller joined them at CinemaCon to debut the first footage.

Early footage featured voiceover from Miles Morales, declaring, “You can’t ask me… not to save my father.” Visuals rolled through vibrant, multidimensional landscapes and included brief flashes of the previous film’s storyline. A quick glimpse showed Miles facing off against a darker version of himself, stepping into a shadowy tunnel, followed by the iconic line from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: “Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go, but nah, Imma do my own thing.” That was followed by the reveal of the 2027 release date.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the horizon and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse gearing up for its long-awaited release, both live-action and animated Spider-Man stories seem poised to reclaim the spotlight. While superhero fatigue continues to plague some corners of the genre, Sony appears confident that its Spidey universe still has stories worth telling, and audiences ready to listen.
