It’s been a little over two years since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released in 2021, and news of a previously-announced sequel has remained a mystery. Simu Liu (Barbie), who plays protagonist Shang-Chi, offered a comforting reply to a user on Threads who posted that Marvel had abandoned the Shang-Chi fanbase.
Liu then posted a reply to the thread, saying that a sequel is “happening”, but offered nothing but that cryptic reply. Fans were overjoyed at the news, rallying behind Liu and expressing their enthusiasm for a sequel. He also mentioned in a 2022 interview that he’d like to see the character, who is “younger, much more inexperienced fare against the (ten) rings,” and “in what way does Shaun fit in with the rest of the MCU.”
With the film’s mid-credit scene seeing the hero meet Wong, Bruce Banner, and Carol Danvers, there’s still hope that he could appear in future MCU movies in some form. Until then, we’ll just have to wait for more updates on the Shang-Chi sequel, and hope that filming begins in the near future.
