Jonah Hill Potentially Poised As Riddler Or Penguin In The Batman

Matt Reeves’ The Batman doesn’t go live until 2021, but the gears are already turning for the DCEU’s newest Caped Crusader.

As Robert Pattinson dons the cape and cowl, with Jeffrey Wright to be his ally in Commissioner Gordon, Jonah Hill is tipped to step up opposite Pattinson as a villain from Batman’s Rogues’ Gallery.

According to Variety, Hill has long been considered to star in the solo Batman film, but it wasn’t until recently that his involvement in the movie has been talked up. However, it appears that Warner Bros and the 35-year-old have yet to come to an agreement as to which Bat-villain he will play.

Collider believes that the former 22 Jump Street and The Wolf of Wall Street star will play the Riddler, whereas The Hollywood Reporter claims that he will instead play the role of the Penguin. Regardless of what his role will be, Hill’s inclusion into the cast of The Batman will no doubt be an interesting one, given the star’s history as a comedic actor.

However, there are parallels to this, as two of the most high-profile incarnations of both villains have also been comedians, with Danny DeVito as the Penguin in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 1992, and Jim Carrey as the Riddler in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever in 1995.

The Batman is scheduled for theatrical release on June 25, 2021.
