Princess Diaries 3 is still in development, in the first update for the film we’ve gotten in a while. Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada ), who plays royal Mia Thermopolis, confirmed that the third movie was still happening, but remained cryptic about any other details.
News of Princess Diaries 3 first surfaced in 2020, with the last update in 2022. Hathaway will return to star in the film, with rumours that co-star Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins) might come back as Queen Clarisse.
“We’re in a good place,” Hathaway said in an interview with V Magazine. “That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”
Directed by the late Garry Marshall and based on the novel by Meg Cabot, the original 2001 movie follows awkward American teenager Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), who learns she is heir to throne of the European kingdom Genovia.
It’s been twenty years since the last movie, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement starring Hathaway and Chris Pine (Star Trek) was released, and it looks like it’ll be a while more before we see the cult classic on screen again.
