From sparkly vampire to the Dark Knight? This can’t be true. But apparently Robert Pattinson is in talks to become the next Batman, Variety reports.
At present, no one is confirmed to don the cape and cowl for Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman solo film. And it seems that the former Twilight and Harry Potter actor may be up for the daunting task to fill rather big shoes in
Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe.
Originally, it was meant to be for Ben Affleck, who wore the mantle across three films in the DCEU — Batman v Superman, Justice League, as well as a cameo role in Suicide Squad.
Now that Affleck has hung up his cape, Reeves & Co. are searching high and low for the next Dark Knight.
The idea of Robert Pattinson as Batman essentially divided the fanbase, with Pattinson’s supporters strongly urging doubters to watch his other works, and the doubters sparking rather hilarious reactions.
Neither Warner Bros. nor Pattinson himself confirmed this, but if this is true, then we may want to withhold our guffawing for a bit.
Despite being associated with the live-action adaptation of the Twilight Saga, the Englishman has proven his acting chops elsewhere.
He starred in crime-drama films such as Good Time (2017) and The Rover (2014), and was nominated for awards multiple times for both instances.
But, of course, make what you will of the situation.
However, if Pattinson may not be to your liking, there may be yet another in contention for the cowl.
It appears Nicholas Hoult, who currently portrays Hank McCoy/Beast in Fox’s X-Men run and Nux in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, is reported to be considered for the role of Batman as well.
Hoult’s performances have certainly caught our attention as well, so it will be an interesting toss-up between the two Brits.
Better than Clooney at least, we hope.
The Batman is slated to release in theatres on June 25, 2021.
