Community’s Joel McHale Is Sidney Prescott’s Husband In ‘Scream 7’

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Woodsboro, Scream 7 introduces a new potential victim – Sidney Prescott’s husband, played by Joel McHale.

The Scream franchise has taken another unexpected turn, with news confirming that Patrick Dempsey’s Detective Mark Kincaid is not Prescott’s husband in the current timeline. Instead, Joel McHale has joined the cast of Scream 7 to play Sidney’s spouse, Mark Evans, per Deadline.

For years, fans believed Kincaid had married Prescott, largely due to references to her husband “Mark” in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023). Dempsey himself had hinted at a potential return, mentioning ongoing discussions and waiting for a script. However, with McHale now confirmed in the role, it appears the franchise is moving in a different direction. The status of Kincaid within the Scream universe remains uncertain, and it is unclear if Dempsey’s character will be addressed in the upcoming film.

McHale, known for his role in Community and The Bear, is already on set in Atlanta, where production for the seventh instalment is underway. This marks a fresh chapter in the horror saga, introducing a family dynamic for Sidney that includes a teenage daughter, played by newcomer Isabel May.

The cast for Scream 7 features familiar faces and fresh additions. Scream queen Neve Campbell is set to return and Courteney Cox reprises her role as Gale Weathers, joined by Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Jasmin Savoy Brown returning as Mindy Meeks-Martin. Newcomers include McKenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp. With Kevin Williamson, the original writer of Scream, now directing, and Guy Busick handling the screenplay, the film is set to honour its legacy while exploring new territory.

Production faced significant challenges earlier, including the firing of lead actress Melissa Barrera due to her support for Palestine following the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jenna Ortega, another key figure in the franchise, exited shortly after, along with director Christopher Landon. Despite these setbacks, the team has managed to move forward, securing a release date of 27 February 2026.
