Courteney Cox To Return For ‘Scream 7’, Is Only OG Star To Appear In All 7 Films In Franchise

The thrills and screams are set to continue with Courteney Cox along for the ride. Following swirling rumours and speculation, the Scream veteran will officially return to Scream 7, reprising her iconic role as Gale Weathers.

As reported by Variety, the actor is the latest addition to the forthcoming sequel, which includes franchise veterans Neve Campbell as scream queen Sidney Prescott and Mason Gooding as fellow Ghostface survivor, Chad Meeks-Martin. Cox also appeared in last year’s Scream VI, the first outing in the long-running series to not feature Campbell, making her the only OG cast member to appear in all seven installments.

Plot details about Scream 7 are being kept under wraps, but things have been rough behind the scenes. Melissa Barrera, who starred in the fifth and sixth installments, was fired last year after voicing support for Palestine in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war, with former co-lead Jenna Ortega also quitting a few days after. Within the next month, intended director Christopher Landon departed from the project, describing it “a dream job that turned into a nightmare”.

In light of the shake-ups, original scriptwriter Kevin Williamson will now take the helm in his directorial debut. Newcomers include Isabel May as Sidney’s daughter, alongside Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp in undisclosed roles.

Scream 7 is set to hit theatres on 27 February 2026, joining the previous two films in relaunching the franchise. The horror series started in 1996 and spawned four big-screen features before the change in creative reboot: Scream, Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011).
