‘Scream 8’ Moves Ahead As ‘Scream 7’ Smashes Franchise Records

Following the success of its predecessor, Spyglass is set to continue the rampage of Ghostface with Scream 8, with the slasher sequel now in development with writers Lilla and Nora Zuckerman.

As reported by Deadline, the duo, commonly referred to as the Zuckerman sisters, will pen the script for the eighth instalment of the long-running slasher franchise created by Kevin Williamson. The pair previously worked on various other series like Peacock’s 2023 crime comedy-drama Poker Face, as well as the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., 2019’s Suits and J. J. Abrams’ 2008 sci-fi procedural Fringe.

News of a sequel shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, especially considering how well Scream 7 performed since its release on 27 February. The film, which saw the return of the iconic franchise final girl, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), has now become the highest-grossing film in the franchise, garnering over US$200 million worldwide, which also marks the first time a Scream movie has crossed this milestone in its 30-year run.

While no further details of Scream 8 were revealed, Williamson previously stated during an interview with the Hello Sidney podcast that he might not return to the director’s chair for the sequel. “For the next Scream, I’ll probably step back and just be a part of the family again,” he explained.

The seventh film, which saw Prescott face off with Ghostface once more alongside her daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), also starred a returning cast of Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), Dewey Riley (David Arquette), Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as siblings Chad and Mindy, alongside Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger, who was Scream 3‘s Ghostface.

Newcomers to the franchise included Michelle Randolph, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, McKenna Grace, Ethan Embry, Mark Consuelos, Jimmy Tatro, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann and Sam Rechner, so it remains to be seen if any of these faces will show up once more in the sequel.
