Patrick Dempsey, who played Detective Mark Kincaid in 2000’s Scream 3, has teased his involvement in the series’ upcoming installment, Scream 7, potentially reprising his role in the slasher flick.

During his interview on the Today show, Dempsey explained that he was “waiting on the script”, adding, “I haven’t seen anything yet. So, we’ll see what happens.” When asked by host Al Roker if he was open to returning to the slasher franchise, the actor stated, “It’s always good to have a job.”
Dempsey’s Dective Kincaid previously survived his encounter with Ghostface in Scream 3, and later in 2022’s Scream, was revealed to have married Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. Campbell, who left the franchise after, was offered a return to the series after the departure of lead stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
Franchise creator Kevin Williamson is set to return as director for Scream 7, along with screenwriter Guy Busick, who also wrote the script for the previous two films in the series.
Dempsey is currently in talks to reprise his role in the new film, but with Scream 7 set to follow Prescott’s story, it’s highly likely that her husband, Kincaid, would also play a major part in the movie’s plot. The film releases on 27 February 2026.
