Jack Black Wants Pedro Pascal As Wario In Super Mario Sequel, Says Bowser’s Return Not A Given

If there’s one thing to love about The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s that Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda, Jumanji: The Next Level) performed like his rent was due! If you watched the movie, you’ll get it; if you didn’t, go and watch the absolute masterpiece.

The movie was a smashing success over the five-day Easter weekend, pulling in S$502 million globally. It looks like it is all but certain that Universal Pictures and Illumination will move forward with a sequel.

Jack Black, who voiced Bowser, is doing some future planning of his own. In an interview with Gamespot, the veteran actor said that he hopes that Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us) can voice Wario as the new villain in the sequel.

“It’s not a given that Bowser will return,” Black said. “You know, I did a few Kung Fu Panda movies, and it was a different villain every movie. They may do the same thing.”

“You know, what if there is a more powerful, more evil villain?” Black continued. “Then I may need to be turned to help Mario and the rest to defend our universe against some other unseen force of evil. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Wario! Pedro Pascal is Wario.”

While the appearance of Wario on the big screen is still uncertain, another beloved Nintendo character is set to make an appearance soon. (This is your spoiler warning!)

In The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s post-credit scene, a green-and-white speckled Yoshi egg sits on its own before cracking. While other Yoshis were in the film, The Yoshi was nowhere to be found.

Any other potential hints at what other branches could stem from the movie are still tightly under wraps, with Illumination boss Chris Melendari being extremely coy when it came to the details.

“Our focus right now is entirely on bringing the film out to the audience, and at this time, we’re not prepared to talk about what’s coming in the future,” he told Variety. “I definitely wouldn’t rule anything out.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently in theatres with plenty of Easter eggs in store for fans.
