Hellraiser TV Series In Development At HBO

Aside from a reboot directed by The Ritual’s David Bruckner, the classic 1980’s horror classic Hellraiser will also be getting a TV series adaptation for HBO

According to Deadline, the first few episodes of the series will be directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween), with Mark Verheiden (Daredevil) and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, X-Men United) on board as scriptwriters.

The TV series will be a continuation and expansion of the franchise’s current mythos, which centres around a deadly group of creatures from hell known as the Cenobites, led by their leader Pinhead. It is not related to the reboot that is in development at Spyglass Media.

The first 1987 Hellraiser movie was written and directed by Clive Barker and is based on his novella The Hellbound Heart. The series has since then spawned 10 films in total, with the latest being 2018’s Hellraiser: Judgement.

There is no news yet on when the series will release on HBO.
