Ubisoft’s 2003 cult classic adventure game Beyond Good & Evil will be receiving a film adaptation for Netflix from Detective Pikachu’s director Rob Letterman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation will feature a mix of live-action and animation and will be produced by Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin under Ubisoft Film and Television.
The film is currently still in early production as the team is reportedly still searching for writers to adapt the game into a film.
Released in 2003, Beyond Good & Evil follows a young investigative journalist named Jade who is hired to become part of an underground resistance movement. The game is set in the 25th century on the remote mining planet Hillys.
The game received mixed reviews on release though since its release, it has managed to achieve a cult following and in 2017, a prequel to the game was announced. For now, it is still too early to tell if the film adaptation will be a faithful retelling of the game’s story or if it will take on a whole new story set in the same universe.
Ubisoft’s Beyond Good & Evil joins a number of other series that will be receiving Netflix adaptations, including Dragon Dogma, and a Splinter Cell series.
