‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Final Trailer Amps Up Hype With X-23 Reunion

The final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has set the fanbase abuzz by confirming the appearance of X-23, a character previously teased but now definitively shown in the MCU film.

Dafne Keen, known for her role in Star Wars: The Acolyte, reprises her role as X-23 in the Deadpool & Wolverine final trailer, engaging in a poignant exchange with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. “Whoever you think I am, you got the wrong guy,” Wolverine tells her. Their dialogue hints at deep layers of character development, with X-23 replying, “You were always the wrong guy, till you weren’t.”

Keen, who was 11 years old when she first portrayed X-23 in 2017’s Logan, returns as a 19-year-old Laura. This time, she speaks English, marking her growth from the mostly silent child in Logan. The trailer, rich with action and hints of time or multiverse manipulation, provides a backdrop for her return, although specifics of her involvement remain under wraps. The trailer also teases other exciting elements, including Aaron Stanford’s Pyro, Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth, and new looks at the villain Cassandra Nova and Lady Deadpool.

The serious tone of the trailer contrasts sharply with the usual meta-humour associated with Deadpool, setting a different vibe for this instalment. Marvel Studios has also teased the appearance of Lady Deadpool, sparking fan speculation about the actor behind the mask, with names like Blake Lively and Taylor Swift floated as possibilities.

The inclusion of Dafne Keen in Deadpool & Wolverine is a significant draw, especially since this film marks Hugh Jackman’s return to his iconic role as Wolverine, despite his previous character’s death in Logan. Jackman has clarified that he plays a different iteration of Wolverine in this film, sparking curiosity about how X-23 fits into the narrative.

Keen had previously denied her involvement in the film, echoing tactics used by Andrew Garfield who famously misled the public about his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. “All the inspo comes from Andrew Garfield,” Keen told EW. “He is the master at this.”

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit cinemas on 26 July.
