Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum Says ‘She-Hulk’ Was A Top Performer, Would ‘Love To Make More’

Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum has expressed his opinions on perhaps the studio’s most divisive series ever, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, claiming that despite its mixed reception, it was one of the most successful MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) shows on Disney+.

Speaking on The Escape Pod podcast, Winderbaum said that She-Hulk was “one of our best-performing shows. It just hit the general audience. There was a mismatch between the general audience response and the fan response,” adding that he would “love to make more She-Hulk.”

Created by Jessica Gao, Season One of She-Hulk was released in 2022 and followed Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), an attorney specialising in court cases involving superpowered individuals, while also being a superhero herself, possessing mostly the same powers as her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), aka the Hulk. The series ran for nine episodes and marked the final television series of Phase Four of the MCU.

While She-Hulk managed a respectable 80 per cent critics’ score on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, its audience score paints a much different picture, sitting at a measly 32 per cent and making it the lowest-faring MCU-related show on Disney+.

She-Hulk

It’s clear that She-Hulk didn’t resonate with some members of its audience, and for good reason, too. The series was infamous for its awful digital effects, which made it look cheaply made, especially considering the fidelity of other Marvel movies and TV shows. Some audiences also didn’t vibe with its sense of humour, with most of its jokes often falling flat and ending up being cringey instead.

Despite his comments, Winderbaum also alluded to the possibility of She-Hulk getting another season being pretty low, as when it was pointed out during the interview that a second season was unrealistic considering its negative response by Marvel fans, he simply responded by saying, “I know.”
