Six months after the launch of its first season, Marvel’s R-rated post-apocalyptic series Marvel Zombies is rising from the dead again, with Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum revealing that its second season is now in full production.

Speaking on The Escape Pod podcast, Winderbaum not only teased that he had already watched the “crazy” first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2, but that the show would also feature something never before seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
“I don’t think this is a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2 this morning. It was crazy,” he explained. “I can’t say anything about it, but it delivers not just on zombies, but also on an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we’re very excited to do.”
While the mysterious “MCU thing” is anyone’s guess at this point, fans can definitely expect more gory animated violence with the second chapter of the undead superhero adventure. Marvel Zombies originally started off as a single one-off episode in the 2021 Disney+ series What If…?, a series encompassing various alternate possibilities set within the Marvel universe. The episode saw some of the most iconic superheroes being turned into bloodthirsty zombies, and it would go on to spawn a spin-off series of its own in 2025.

Continuing from the events of the What If…? episode, Marvel Zombies Season One was set in an alternate universe where a virus infects the Avengers and spreads globally. Its plot follows a new group of heroes, including Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfield), and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) as they navigate a dystopian landscape to find a cure for the super-powered undead.
Season One ran for four episodes and was initially meant to be a one-and-done two-hour movie broken up into bite-sized chunks, but now, it seems Marvel has more in store. Given the time it takes to develop such animated shows, don’t expect Marvel Zombies Season Two to arrive so soon, but the very fact that the undead will rise again should be enough to keep fan anticipation high.
