Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Movie Set 15 Years Later, Focuses On New Jedi Order

As the Star Wars universe continues to grow on the small screen, things have been quieter on the big screen, but that’s set to change with an upcoming movie starring Daisy Ridley. One of the biggest announcements to come out of Star Wars Celebration, it will see the actress returning to a galaxy far, far away as Rey, with a focus on building a new Jedi Order.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has revealed further details in an interview with IGN, confirming that events in the Rey film will pick up more than a decade after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

“Well we’re 15 years out from Rise of Skywalker, so we’re post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray,” she shared. “There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’ She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”

As for Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, his reappearance is anyone’s guess — be it via flashbacks or as a Force ghost. “I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time in flashbacks or [on] Force ghosts or things like that, but certainly, the spirit of what he represents to her is going to be significant,” said Kennedy.

Not much else is known about the Ridley-led film, including a title, release date, and casting. Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will serve as director alongside Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight as screenwriter, making her the first woman and person of colour to helm a Star Wars movie.
